The challenges of quality assurance in the implementation of secondary school Social Studies curriculum in Nigeria

Abstract

The need to require knowledge in social studies has become very imperative. But much of the consent of social studies curriculum in current use, offer little to assist learners acquiring, the training and skills necessary to effectively function in a globalized society. The alarming rate at which the standard of education hasfallen in Nigeria in the case decades callsfor an improvement on the quality assurance measures in the educational system. The quality of graduates from the various levels of the school system is generally so poor that many of the graduates remained unemployable. Education has been recognized as the bedrock a/ national development and so, both the processes and products need to be of good quality. Implementation of social studies curriculum is necessary and important, but this implementation is faced with multifaceted challenges such as problems of quality assurance and standard, poor policy formulation and planning, inadequate infrastructure/facilities etc that hinder its success as this poses was of problems to the professional teacher, as the content and subject matters of social studies education and global citizenship are relayed and overlap in most cases.
