Incorporating Current World Environmental Themes into Innovative Learning of French Language

Abstract

For years, the world has responded to various environmental themes ranging from ‘Dream: One Planet consume with care’ (2015), ‘Zero tolerance for the illegal wildlife trade’ (2016), ‘Connecting people to nature – in the city and on the land, from the poles to the Equator’ (2017) to ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’ as the theme for 2018 World Environment Day. The significance of this day held annually is to provide awareness on environmental issues. School system provides the largest organized base for environmental education  and action. Teachers are the important factor and are bound to affect this programme. With emphasis on French as a second official language in Nigeria, this paper focuses on ways the language educators can join in doing some green good deed daily. Worth experimenting innovative learning tools developed by many agencies as a process of pursuing proactive policies for promotion of learning French language are brought to bear. Finally, incorporating the latest digital technology into French language learning opens up a  wealth of interactive programmes/applications on environmental themes available to bring learning techniques into the 21st century.
