Impact of Value Based Leadership on Nation Building in Nigeria: Implication for Social Studies Education

Abstract

This study examined the impact of value based leadership on nation building in Nigeria: implication for Social Studies. The paper gives the conceptual analysis of leadership, value based leadership, nation building and Social Studies. The paper discusses national value, essence of leadership, problems of nation building in Nigeria, the impact of value based leadership on nation building in Nigeria and its implication for Social Studies Education. The position of this paper suggests that leadership training on value based leadership is imperative for nation building process in Nigeria. Also, the paper posits that the real essences of functional leaders who are nation builders are to manage the national values of a country. The paper recommends among others that leadership training on value based leadership should be a pre- condition for occupying leadership position towards nation building in Nigeria and also leadership values should be emphasized in Social Studies curriculum package.
