The Process of Knowledge Organization and the Design of the Primary School Curriculum for Sustainable Education

The manner in which knowledge is organized during curriculum design is a fundamental element in the achievement of educational objectives for sustainable education. This paper examined the process of knowledge organization and the design of the primary school curriculum for sustainable education. The paper discussed this with particular reference to the concept of curriculum, and curriculum design and the two kinds of relationships that exist in the design and organization of knowledge which include the vertical and horizontal organization. The concept of knowledge and individual discipline, differentiated unified and specialized knowledge were also treated. The paper further examined Dewey’s position on progressive organization of subject matter, and how it affects a learner. It also looked at the steps or principles of curriculum design as well as some modes of knowledge acquisition and organization and how these modes of knowledge acquisition can bring about sustainable education
