Abstract

The study focused on activities of age grade associations and implementation of community development projects in Awgu and Nkanu West local government areas of Enugu State, Nigeria. To achieve the purpose of the study, two research questions were raised and two null hypotheses were tested. The population of the study was 1,000 adult dwellers. Survey research design was employed for the study. A sample of fiveĀ  hundred (500) subjects was randomly selected from twenty five (25) communities in the study area and used for the study. A 40-item questionnaire titled: Activities of Age Grade Associations and Implementation of Community Development Projects Questionnaire (AAGAICDPQ) was used for data collection. The instrument was validated and the reliability estimates ranged from 0.72 to 0.86, using split half reliability estimate method. This reliability coefficient was considered high enough to justify the use of the instrument for the study. The hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The result showed that construction of rural roads and provision of credit facilities had a positive significant influence on implementation of community development projects. Based on the findings of the study, recommendations were made among others, that organizations should be encouraged to participate in community development projects in order to compliment the effort of age grade associations.
