Abstract

The study examined the influence of gender and mode of administration on the academic performance of candidates in economics in 2014 unified tertiary matriculation examination in Cross River State, Nigeria.  To achieve the purpose of this study, one null hypothesis was formulated to guide the study. Ex-post facto research design was used for the study. Data for the study was candidates’ test scores adopted from the examination body (joint admission and matriculation board). A sample of six hundred candidates was randomly selected from both modes (CBT and PPT) of administering 2014 unified tertiary and matriculation examination. Factorial analysis of variance statistics was used for data analysis and the hypothesis was tested at .05 level of significance. The result of the study revealed that gender and mode of administration do not significantly influence candidates’ academic performance in economics in 2014 unified tertiary and matriculation examination. Based on these finding, it was recommended that candidates should be allowed to choose which mode to be examined with.
