Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to examine the role of social studies education in promoting social change and sustainable development in Nigeria. The objective is to determine the relevance of social studies in contemporary Nigeria. This is achieved by examining the content and scope of social studies, the concepts  of social change and sustainable development. The paper concludes that if social studies education is functional, it will promote social change and sustainable development in Nigeria.
