Transcending the Illusions of Globalisation in Nigeria: Educational Sector in Perspective

Abstract

There is no gainsaying that education is the bedrock tor transforming human society. This important contribution of education, whether formal or informal, has been acknowledged from the earliest civilizations. At every age or time, this educational instrument has waxed in different forms. In a globalised world where there is interconnectedness and networking among peoples, it is most imperative for the educational motive to be pursued with vigour. Nigeria as a country already implicated in the globalization process has her own share of disadvantages of globalisation.   One  of  the  areas  that  have  been  so  affected  is  education.  This paper contends that education remains an important index in Nigeria's quest tor development. It argues that the present state of education in Nigeria needs to make necessary adjustments to ensure that it meets the challenge of a globalised world. Using the qualitative approach, this paper argues that Nigeria can take advantage of the phenomenon of globalization tor the development of her education sector towards robust development. The paper concludes that Nigeria must look inward and tree its educational system of all the factors that are crippling it from attaining its expected potentials in the globalised world. It recommends that Nigeria should engage her education sector with global standards and principles to enable her reap the benefits of quality education in development.
