Women Participation in NGOs’ Environmental Awareness and Biodiversity Conservation Programmes in Cross River State, Nigeria

The main thrust of this study was to investigate the relationship between women participation in NGOs’ environmental awareness and biodiversity conservation programmes in Cross River State, Nigeria. To achieve the purpose of this study, one hypothesis was formulated and tested at 0.5 level of significance. Literature reviewed was carried out according to the variable of the study. Correlation research design was adopted for the study. A sample of three hundred and forty-seven (347) respondents was randomly selected for the study. The selection was done through the stratified and simple random sampling techniques. Instrument entitled: Women Participation in Non-Governmental Organizations Environmental Awareness and Biodiversity Conservation Questionnaire (WPNGOEABCQ) was the main instrument used for data collection. The instrument was faced validated by the expert on journal articles who vetted the item developed. The reliability estimate of the instrument was established through the Cronbach’s alpha reliability estimated 0.81. Pearson Product Moment Correlation analysis was employed to test the hypotheses under study. The result of the analysis revealed that, women participation in NGOs’ environmental awareness significantly relate with biodiversity conservation. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended that women in NGOs should be directly involved in establishment of conservation clubs from primary to tertiary institutions to create more awareness on biodiversity conservation practices that are sustainable and environmental friendly.
