Abstract

This study assessed appraisal and counseling services in public secondary schools in Cross River, Nigeria. Two research questions were used to assess the health appraisal, counseling services in public secondary schools in Cross River State, Nigeria. Ex-post facto research design was adopted for this study. A sample of 160 public secondary schools were used for the study. A checklist titled Assessment of School Health Services Checklist (ASHSC) was used for data collection. Data collected were analyzed using percentages. The results of the analysis revealed that: 56 (34.33%) of the public secondary schools in Cross River State carried out effective health appraisal services in their schools, 88 (55%) of the secondary schools in Cross River State carried out effective health counselling service in their schools. It was recommended that school administrators should ensure that screening test for speech, asthma and ebola that were not adequately carried out in most school should be carried out in the schools. School administrator should ensure that psychiatric counselling and premarital sex counseling that was not carried out in most schools should be carried out in the schools
