Community Education Programmes and Adult Learners Participation in Waste Management Activities in Cross River State, Nigeria

This study examined community education programmes and adult learners participation in waste management activities in Cross River State, Nigeria. One null hypothesis was formulated to guide the study. Ex-post facto research design was adopted for the study. A simple and accidental random sampling techniques were used. The population of the study was 600 adult learners drawn from 18 communities for the study. A sample of 300 adult learners were selected from 18 communities. A 20 item research instrument tagged. Community Education Programmes and Adult Learners Questionnaire (CEPALQ) developed, validated and was trial tested by the researchers for data collection. One-way analysis of variance was used for data analysis. The instrument was validated and the reliability estimate ranged from 0.65 to 0.89, using Cronbach alpha reliability method. The reliability coefficient was considered high enough to justify the useĀ of the instrument for the study. The hypothesis was tested at .05 level of significance. The result showed that community education programmes had positive significant influence on adult learners participation in waste management activities. Based on the findings of the study, recommendations were made among others that adult learners should be encouraged to be involve in waste management activities in their various communities.
