Abstract

This paper is on teaching social studies education to promote cultural heritage in Nigeria. The need to promote the cultural heritage is imperative. The efficacy of social studies education preserve our culture through inculcating the required knowledge for learners on their culture and the need to preserve it. This is achieved by examining the content and scope of social studies, the concepts of social studies and cultural heritage, the role of social studies in promoting cultural heritage and some historic cultural heritage in Nigeria. The paper concludes that the teaching of social studies in schools will promote Nigeria’s cultural heritage.
