The influence of teacher marital status on Social Studies teaching effectiveness in Ikom Education Zone of Cross River State, Nigeria

This study explores the influence of marital status on teachers teaching effectiveness in social studies education in Ikom education zone of Cross River State. To achieve the purpose of this study, one null hypothesis was formulated to direct the study. The design used for the study was ex-post facto research design with a target population of 124 social studies teachers drown from the study area. A census sampling technique was adopted since the population was small. The instrument used for data collection was Teacher’s marital status and teaching effectiveness questionnaire (TMSATEQ). Data collected was analysed using one- way analysis of variance at .05 level of significance. The result of the analysis revealed that, the marital status of teachers has a significant influence on their teaching effectiveness in social studies education in the study area. Based on this finding, the researchers recommended that marital status of teachers, most especially social studies teachers should be taken into account when responsibilities are to be assigned to them by the government, school management or policy makers in education as to enhance effectiveness.
