Assessment of principals’ perceptions of the effects of office facilities on service delivery of teachers in secondary schools in Calabar Education Zone of Cross River State, Nigeria

Abstract

The paper examined principals’ perceptions of the effects of office facilities on service delivery of teachers in secondary schools in Calabar Education Zone of Cross River State, Nigeria. The survey research design was adopted for the study. Two research questions were posed and two hypotheses formulated to guide the study. The total population for the study was 46 public secondary school principals in calabar education zone. Census sampling technique was used to select all the 46 principals because they were small and manageable. The instrument used for data collection is a questionnaire titled “Effects of office facilities on service delivery of teachers’ questionnaire (EOFTSDQ). The instrument was validated by two experts in tests and measurement, Faculty of Educational Foundation Studies, University of Calabar. The calculated reliability coefficient of the instrument was.0.86 using the Cronbach Alpha Statistic. Mean score and t- test statistics were used for data analysis. The results revealed areas of teachers’ service delivery that could be affected by the level of availability of office facilities and the effects of level of availability of office facilities on teachers’ service delivery. Results also revealed that there is no significant difference between perception of both male and female principals on the area of teachers’ service delivery that could be affected by level of availability of office facilities and there is no significant difference between male and female principals on the effects of level of availability of office facilities on teachers’ service delivery in secondary schools in Calabar Education Zone of Cross River State. It was therefore recommended among others that Government should prioritize the building of adequate and conducive office spaces in schools and the provision of other necessary office facilities for teachers use.
