Perception of principals on the influence of level of availability of classroom facilities on the service delivery of secondary school teachers in Calabar Education Zone of Cross River State, Nigeria.

The study investigated the perception of principals on the influence of level of availability of classroom facilities on the service delivery of teachers in secondary schools in Calabar Education Zone of Cross River State. Two research questions were raised and two hypotheses formulated to guide the study. The population of the study are all principals in the 46 public secondary schools in Calabar education zone. This gave a total of 46 principals. Census sampling technique was used to select all the 46 principals as sample of the study because the number was small and manageable. The instrument used for data collection was a questionnaire titled “level of availability of classroom facilities and teachers’ service delivery questionnaire (LACFTSDQ). The instrument was validated by two experts in Educational Tests and Measurement, University of Calabar. While the reliability of the instrument using Cronbach Alpha test yielded 0.81. This was considered ideal for the study. The hypotheses were tested using population t-test and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). Results revealed that classroom facilities were significantly low in secondary schools in Calabar Education Zone. Results also revealed that level of availability of classroom facilities significantly influence teachers as perceived by the principals. Based on these results, it is was recommended among others that government should prioritize the building and equipping of classrooms in all public secondary schools in Calabar Education Zone.
