Abstract

The study investigated “Psychological variables of sports injury recovery among athletes in Cross River State”. To achieve the purpose of this study, three (3) research questions were raised and three null hypotheses were tested at 0.05 significance level. The survey research design was considered most appropriate for the study. Psychological variables of Sports Injury Recovery among Athletes in Cross River State Questionnaire (PVSIRAQ) was used as the main instrument for data collection. To test the hypotheses formulated for the study, Pearson Product Moment coefficient was used for analysis. Census sampling technique was used to select the sample of 219 respondents from the population of the study. The result obtained from analysis for data and testing of hypotheses revealed that there is a significant relationship between athletic identity to sports injury recovery among athletes in Cross River State, that grit relates to sports injury recovery among Cross River State athletes, there is a significant relationship between self-efficacy to sports injury recovery among athletes in Calabar, Cross River State. Based on the findings, it was recommended among others that   the U.J. Esuene sports administration council and the University of Calabar sports administration council should initiate ways to help boost athlete’s confidence in their abilities, because athletes possessing high self-efficacy or confidence are more likely to adhere to training and recovery protocols, which can help reduce risk of injury.
