Students’ career prospects and academic performance of JSS3 students in Social Studies in Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River State Nigeria

Abstract

The study was undertaken to investigate students’ career prospects and academic performance of jss3 students in social studies in Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River State Nigeria. One null hypothesis was formulated to guide the study. The research design adopted for the study was expost-facto research design. The population of the study comprises of both male and female students with the total number of (2,851) two thousand eight hundred and fifty-one students. A sample size of (200) students were selected for the study. A self-designed questionnaire on students career prospects (SCPQ), and achievement test on social studies for JSS3 students, were the instruments used for  data collection. The data collected were analyzed using Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) to test the hypothesis at 0.05 level of significance. The result of the hypothesis showed that significant relationship exists between student’s career prospect and their academic performance in social studies. It was recommended that the school counselors and teachers should endeavor to enlighten students on importance of career prospects.
