Government economic policies, implementation and lecturers’ service delivery in tertiary institutions in Cross River State, Nigeria.

Abstract

This investigated the relationship between government economic policy implementation and lecturers’ service delivery in tertiary institutions in Cross River State, Nigeria. Specifically, the study sought to find out whether salary structure and provision of security relates statistically to lecturers’ service delivery in public tertiary institutions in Calabar Cross River State, Nigeria. Two research hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. Survey research design was adopted for this study. The population was two public tertiary institutions in Calabar Cross River State, Nigeria which are University of Calabar and University of Cross River State. Stratified and proportionate sampling techniques were used to sample 446 lecturers from the two public tertiary institutions, while 100 final year students from the two institutions were purposively selected to access the lecturers’ service delivery. A 24 items questionnaire designed on a four-point Likert scale titled: Government Economic Policy Implementation and Lecturers’ Service Delivery Questionnaire (GEPILSDQ) was used to elicit information from the respondents. The validity of the instrument was determined by experts from educational management, test measure and evaluation. Cronbach alpha reliability method was used to establish the reliability of the research instrument, and it yielded a coefficient estimate that ranged from .81 - .86 respectively.  Pearson product moment correlation analysis was used to test the hypotheses. The entire hypotheses were tested at a .05 level of significance with the help of Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 26. The result of the analysis revealed that salary structure and provision of security are correlated to lecturers' service delivery in public tertiary institutions in Cross River State. The study concluded that government economic policy implementation have a  significant relationship with lecturers' service delivery in public tertiary institutions in Cross River State of Nigeria. It was recommended among others that government should prioritize increased education funding, ensure transparent and fair salary policies, and invest in security infrastructure, to enhance development and service delivery in tertiary institutions.
