AUTHORITATIVE PARENTING AND JUVENILE DELINQUENCY AMONG PUBLIC SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS IN CALABAR SOUTH LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF CROSS RIVER STATE

The study investigated Authoritative parenting styles and juvenile delinquency in Calabar South Local Government Area of Cross River State. A survey research design was used for the study. A simple random sampling technique was adopted for the study. A sample of 198 public secondary school students in Calabar south local Government Area which is made up of male and female was selected for the study. The instrument used for data collection was a four-point Likert scale questionnaire, comprises two sections, sections A and B. The section A contains the respondents’ demographic data while section B contains items with respect to the sub-variables under study. The result of the study shows that there is a positive significant relationship between Authoritative parenting style on juvenile delinquency. It was therefore recommended that Since juvenile delinquency is a dynamic problem, there is need for parents to monitor the kind of peers that their children keep to avoid anti-social association.
