MALE DOMINANCE AND WOMENS PARTICIPATION IN COMMUNITY BASE PROJECTS IN OGOJA EDUCATIONAL ZONE CROSS RIVER STATE, NIGERIA
Abstract
This study investigated the influence of male dominance and women participation in community based projects in Ogoja Educational Zone, Cross River State Nigeria To achieve the purpose of the study, a null hypothesis was formulated and tested. Literature was reviewed accordingly. Survey research design was adopt for the study. A sample of four hundred (400) women were randomly selected from 50% of the wards in each local government area. The selection was done through the stratified random sampling techniques. The questionnaire Women Participation in Community Projects (WPCQ) was the main instrument used for data collection. The reliability estimate of the instrument was established through the cronbach alpha estimate and. highly reliable as indicated in the body of the work. One way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was the statistical analysis technique adopted to test the hypothesis. The result of the analysis revealed that male dominance significantly influenced women’s participation in community based projects. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended amongs other that, strategies should be put in place by the government to increase women representation and participation by allowing women to be involve in public and development related activities and holding positions at the community level in order to reduced male dominance that hinders women’s active participation in community based projects.
