WORKING HOUR AND CONDITION ON MENTAL WELLBEING OF NURSES IN IBADAN, NIGERIA

Abstract

The mental health of employees is intrinsically linked to various issues, such as job performance, illness rates, absenteeism, workplace accidents, and employee turnover. The study investigated working hour and condition on mental wellbeing of nurses in Ibadan. This is survey research that utilized accidental sampling technique with use of questionnaire to access information from respondents.  Both hypotheses were tested using Chi-Square. The findings indicated that there is a significant association between working hours and mental wellbeing of nurses in Ibadan test value= 58.896 and df=2, and p=.000 with effect size of .283. There is a significant association between working condition and mental wellbeing of nurses in Ibadan test value= 110.270 and df=4, and p=.000 with effect size of .328. Consequently, hospital management is urged to diminish the number of hours nurses are assigned to work. Optimal working conditions must be established to enhance the mental wellbeing of nurses
