ASSESSMENT OF FAIR TESTING PRACTICES AMONG BASIC EDUCATION TEACHERS IN SOUTH-SOUTH STATES, NIGERIA

This paper aimed at assessing fair testing practices among basic education teachers in South-South, Nigeria. The study adopted a descriptive survey design. A sample of 1074 teachers was selected through the stratified and simple random sampling techniques. The instrument used for data collection was “Fair Testing Practices Code” with a reliability coefficient of .89. The One-sample t-test analysis used in the study showed that the level of fair testing among basic education teachers is significantly high in terms of Developing and selecting appropriate tests, Administering and Scoring tests, Reporting and interpreting test results, Informing test takers and Security and Confidentiality of test scores and Overall fair testing practices. The study recommends among others that Basic education teachers in the system should be frequently exposed to fair testing practices through workshops, as that is the only way to guarantee proper evaluation of learning outcome, diagnose learning difficulties and motivate learning
