Abstract

Students often exhibit divergent tendencies towards learning. Some of these tendencies or habits impact positively on their learning while others do not. This paper explores common traits that students experience during learning and how these traits correlate with their adamic performance. The paper evaluates how students’ learning time, study periods and discussion periods are significantly related to their academic performance in Economics. Three research hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. The Expo facto research design was used for this study. A population of 2,000 and a sample size of 200, representing 10% of the entire population. The research instruments used for this study are the questionnaire titled Students Study Habits Rating Scale-SSHRS and a Performance Test in Economics. Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient statistical tool was used to analyze the data for the relationship between students’ study habits practices and their academic performance in Economics. The findings indicated a positive relationship between students’ study habit practices and their academic performance in Economics in the area of study. It was recommended, among others, that students should always concentrate on their studies and avoid distractions to enable them get their real time learning advantages among others.
