TEACHERS’ SOCIAL ATTTRIBUTES AND EFFECTIVE TEACHING OF ACCOUNTING IN SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN CALABAR EDUCATION ZONE, CROSS RIVER STATE, NIGERIA

Abstract

This paper examined the influence of teachers’ social attributes on effective teaching of Accounting in senior secondary schools in Calabar Education Zone, Cross River State. Two research questions hypotheses were stated to guide the study. Literature was reviewed according to the sub variables of the study. All the 112 Accounting teachers in secondary schools in Calabar Education Zone participated in the study using census technique. The instrument used for data collection was developed by the researcher named: “Teachers’ Social Attribute and Effective Teaching Questionnaire (TSAEQ)”. The instrument was validated by one expert in Measurement and Evaluation. The instrument was trial tested and the coefficients of .85 and .87 were obtained for the teachers’ attributes, while .90 was obtained for effective teaching of Accounting. The data collected were statistically analyzed using One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and independent t-test. Results indicated that there is a significant influence of teacher/student relationship and teachers’ communication skills on effective teaching of Accounting in senior secondary schools. Based on the findings, it was recommended the Ministry of Education should organize regular workshops for teachers to be trained on how to build interpersonal relationship with their students
