Problem Solving Model Application and Curriculum Revision of Post-Graduate Students in the Department of Social Science Education, Faculty of Education, University of Calabar, Calabar-Nigeria

Basically, meeting the needs and aspirations of the individual groups or society at large have been accepted to be the major essence of education. Educational programs are designed to serve the needs of individuals and the society. The curriculum is a vehicle by which educational programs and activities are articulated. For the curriculum to serve its purpose, the needs of the individuals and society must be properly diagnosed so as to provide a focus for educational activities. This study therefore, adopting a survey design with the aid of a questionnaire, elicited data from 100 respondent, cutting across Masters and Ph.D students of the Faculty of Education, University of Calabar, under students proposal of diagnosis of need. The problem-solving model was considered most appropriate for the study. The relevance of this model is that the user has different needs; and, innovation or revision is a stage towards solving that need. The findings, among others revealed that the problem-solving model is client-centred and collaboration for meaningful curriculum revision is rather from within. Also, curriculum revision helps to keep curriculum in compliance with the needs of the times, of the student and helps to determine which objective should be stressed peer productivity, we therefore conclude by recommending that, the innovators must distribute or supply materials of the new curriculum and installation of new and well-equipped laboratories in schools, in both rural and urban
