Drug abuse as a social problem in Nigerian Education System: The way forward

Drug abuse also known as substance abuse is a deviant behavior that portrays a dangerous way of administering drugs that can easily lead to problems or distress. This misdemeanor is seen as a phenomenon that has found its way into every sphere of human society. It is now common among the Nigerian youths especially among students in the Nigerian educational institutions, secondary to tertiary level. It should not to be treated with kid glove. It constitutes a serious social problem that has undermined the collective efforts of the Nigerian people. This work therefore seeks to discuss the meaning, causes, effects and solutions to drug abuse including the role of parents in the fight. The paper suggests that stemming the tide of drug abuse among the Nigerian youths can help in revamping the deteriorating Nigerian educational system.
