Abstract

The history and rationale for the introduction of Social Studies Education (SSE) emphasize change in learners' behavior for effectiveness in social responsibility. In spite of its many years of existence, it cannot be said without fear of contradiction that its objectives and aims have been optimally attained. The researcher attributes this significantly to SSE teachers' inability to apply in their leadership roles methods, techniques and strategies that can enhance learners' effective capacity for critical and creative thinking (CCT) abilities for problem solving in social responsibilities. This study used the analytical method of Philosophy of Education to seek for answers to related questions such as: What are the features of CCT classroom? What are the related features of the various leadership philosophies that can enhance effective teaching through inculcation of CCT abilities? How do teachers apply effectively the various leadership philosophies in SSE classroom for CCT ability inculcation in learners? With the philosophical method of synthesis, it went further to integrate the identified leadership features into the required teaching skills that can enhance CCT in .earners through effective SSE teachers' classroom leadership strategy in Nigeria. From these conclusions were drawn and some recommendations were made.
