Abstract

This study investigate students’ perception of map work and academic performance in senior secondary school Geography in Cross River State. The study adopted survey research design approach. A sample of 300 secondary school students from Calabar Education Zone using stratified sampling technique. A self-developed 25-item modified 4-point likert scale instrument called Perception of Performance in Map Reading and Interpretation (PPMRI) was used to collect data for the study. The result revealed among others that teacher’s factor significantly predicted the student’s performance in map work in secondary schools. It was therefore, recommended among others that teachers should update their knowledge by enrolling in higher educational programmes. They should exhibit positive attitudes towards their student’s and be committed to their work.
