PERCEPTIONS OF LIBRARY AND INFORMATION SCIENCE STUDENTS ON THE RELEVANCE OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP EDUCATION

The survey study was undertaken to investigate the perceptions of library and information science students on the relevance of entrepreneurship education. Two research questions were raised to guide the study. The study population consisted of forty-three Year 3 students of the 2024/2025 academic session. Given the small population size, the researchers decided to utilized a census approach whereby the entire 43 students were involved in the research. A structured questionnaire titled Students’ Perception of Entrepreneurship Education (SPEE) was adopted for data collection. Descriptive analysis (involving frequency and simple percentages) was the statistical technique employed to analyze the research questions, (the results are presented on Tables). The result of the analysis revealed that students of Library and Information Science have a positive perception on the relevance of entrepreneurship education in Nigeria. The result also revealed that the students have a negative perception of the relevance of entrepreneurship course content in Library and Information Science Practice. Based on these findings, the researchers recommended that A more pragmatic approach to teaching entrepreneurship courses should be adopted. It should not just be theoretical; and that the University curriculum should be revisited regularly to ensure the inclusion of entrepreneurship education that promotes the entrepreneurial demand of Library and Information students
