Abstract

The study “aimed at assessing the influence of education for sustainable development on climate change mitigation strategies among Niger Deltans. Survey design was used. The study population comprised of 5,156,000 and sample size 1,081. The hypothesis stated that Educational level on Sustainable development has no significant influence on climate change mitigation strategies. The (EDSUDECLIMIST) Questionnaire used, participant observations made up the primary sources of information. Research hypothesis formulated was tested in line with the objective of the study. Hypothesis was tested using chi square statistical tool. The result reveals that education for Sustainable development influenced the climate change mitigation strategies. This is because the calculated X 2-value = 73.61 was greater than the critical X 2-value of 28.14 at 0.05 level of significance with 44 degrees of freedom. The result implies that, the null hypothesis which states that education for Sustainable development has no significant influence on climate change mitigation strategies is rejected while the alternate hypothesis is retained. It suggests that the promotion of environmental information and education of the public on sustainable development is a key to combat climate change. It was recommended that sustainable development education and awareness is needed for mitigating climate change among others.
