EFFECT OF ONLINE SCULPTURE STRATEGY FOR SECURITY PURPOSE ON COLLEGES OF EDUCATION STUDENTS IN SOUTH-WEST, NIGERIA

Abstract

This study examined effect of online sculpture strategy for security purpose on colleges of education students in south-west, Nigeria. Two research questions and two null hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. The research design adopted was the quasi experimental design. The population for the study comprised all Fine and Applied Arts students in Colleges of Education in South-West, Nigeria. A simple random sampling technique was adopted to select Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo Fine and Applied Arts students as experimental and Federal College of Education, Abeokuta Fine and Applied Arts students were in control group respectively. All the 200 level Fine and Applied Arts students in two school were used for sample in the research exercise. The instrument used for data collection in this study was: Sculpture Achievement Test (SAT) and Online Sculpture Strategy (OSS). The SAT and OSS were developed by the researchers and validated by three experts. Two Fine and Applied Arts lecturers in Federal College of Education (Technical) Akoka, Lagos state, two Educational Technologists from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State and two computer software developer in University of Ibadan for face and content validity. The reliability coefficients of SAT and OSS were found to be 0.86 and 0.79 respectively. Mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions while the analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) was used to test the hypotheses at a level of significance of 0.05. The result showed that online sculpture strategy was more effective than conventional teaching method in improving skill development. Also, there was no significant difference in male and female that were exposed to online sculpture strategy. It was recommended that online sculpture strategy should be adopted to teach metal casting in sculpture in colleges of education in south-west, Nigeria.
