Abstract

This study investigated the influence of innovative pedagogies on the development of 21stcentury skills among secondary school students in Calabar Education Zone, Nigeria. The Survey design research design was adopted for the study. The population of the study was made up of four thousand, nine hundred and four (4,904) senior secondary school two students in public secondary schools in Calabar Education Zone of Cross River State. The simple random sampling technique was adopted for the selection of 490 senior secondary school two students in Calabar Education Zone used for the study. A structured questionnaire tilled ‘Innovative Pedagogies and Development of 21st Century Skills Questionnaire (IPDCSQ)’ developed by the researcher was used for data collection. One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was the statistical tool used for data analysis at .05 level of significance. Findings revealed that; inquiry-based learning and collaborative learning significantly influenced the development of 21stcentury skills among secondary school students in Calabar Education Zone of Cross River State, Nigeria. Based on the finding, it was recommended that teachers should adopt the innovative pedagogies that can enhance creative skills among students, students should be encouraged to collaborate to enhance individual development among them and teachers should engage students in inquiry-based activities to enable them explore the world by themselves
